Easy At Home Teeth Whitening For Busy Moms

Disclaimer: This is a sponsored post for Smile Brilliant. I was given this product free to try. All of the opinions and comments expressed are my own.

If you are a mom then you know that life with kids is busy! Finding the time to do things for yourself can seem impossible, especially when it comes to self care. If you are anything like me than you probably put self care as one of your very last priorities. Between laundry, dinner, and caring for the kids, whitening your teeth is probably not even an option.

Over the years I’ve noticed my smile getting yellower with some minor stains. The fact is that I live on coffee to get through every day. I started to think about whitening my teeth. The problem is that I don’t have the time for an office visit or the money for an expensive whitening treatment.

When Smile Brilliant reached out to me to try their teeth whitening system I was excited and a bit skeptical. How would I find the time to use it and would it actually work? What appealed to me most was that I could do it at home so I quickly decided to give it a try.

I filled out a brief questionnaire on Smile Brilliant and I was recommended the T3 Sensitive System for light stains. I was pleasantry surprised when my product arrived within a week after placing the order. The very first step in the whitening system was make impressions of my teeth. After sending my impressions back I soon received my custom whitening trays to begin the whitening process.

I stared whitening my teeth every night before bed and continued whitening my teeth for a total of 10 days. Each session I did for about 45 mins. for optimal results. I skipped a day here and there when my gums felt a little irritated. I experienced very little sensitivity during the whitening process itself, but I continued to use the sensitivity gel after each session.

After the 10 days all of the stains and discoloration in the cracks of my teeth completely disappeared.  I also noticed that my smile looks so much brighter now.  Over all the whitening system was super easy to use. The best part was that it didn’t interfere with any of my mom duties. I was able to use it while packing lunches, reading bedtime stories, and watching my TV shows. I am so happy with my results and my whiter smile.

Choosing The Right Car For Your Family

“Sponsored Post.”

Shopping for a new car can be a stressful time. Choosing the right car for your family can be even more overwhelming. With so many makes, models and colors to choose from you may not know where to start or what to consider.

At cars.com you can start your search for a new car with ease. There are resources and reviews there to help you narrow down your search. These easy tips as well as cars.com will help walk you through the process of finding the right car to meet your family’s needs.

Body Style

Choosing the right body style is the first step in finding the right car for your family. Depending on how big your family is you will need to consider how many seats are needed as well as any extra seats. If your family is relatively small a descent size sedan or hatchback may be an option for you. For a larger family of 4 or more you should consider a mini van or SUV.

New or Used

The next thing to consider when looking for a new family car is whether it should be new or used. New cars are beautiful and smell great, but come at a higher price tag. The nice thing about new cars is that you can get a lot more years out of it. A used car is a great option if you don’t have the budget for a brand new car. At cars.com you can filter through the used cars to select the year and the maximum mileage you would consider buying.

Budget

Your budget is very important when choosing a new car for your family. Going over your budget can have a negative effect on your family. Think about what your budget is and set the maximum amount you can spend. If you are financing the car the your monthly payment should be one that you can afford. If you are paying for the car upfront you will need to purchase a car with some savings.

Safety

When it comes to your family safety is the most important thing. Consider a car that is top rated in safety. This means finding a car with a clean title and all of its safety features in tact. Check which cars are best suited for certain types of car seats with the Car Seat Check.

Features

Lastly consider all of the features that are important to your family. If you have kids you will want an interior that is easy to clean such as leather or dark colored seats. Another requirement for your family may be backseat entertainment or navigation. Heated seats or third row seating are some other features to consider when choosing a family car.

Good luck on choosing the right car for your family!

10 Fall Family Traditions To Start Now

Fall is a beautiful and exciting time of year. In fact, fall is my favorite time of year! I love the cooler weather, the fall harvests, and all of the festivities that come in fall. There is so much to do in these few months that can make for amazing fall traditions each year.

Do you remember your parents taking you to the pumpkin patch or trick or treating? I do and it has been some of my greatest childhood memories. Creating your own traditions with your kids is an important part your family dynamics. Take some time to do things as a family and create long lasting memories together.

Pumpkin Patch

Of course the first tradition on this list is to visit a pumpkin patch! What would fall be without pumpkins? If you can find a really good pumpkin patch in your area than there should be plenty to do for the whole family. Choose a pumpkin, go on a hay ride, play games, or even walk through a corn maze. The pumpkin patch is the perfect family tradition to to each and every year.

Apple Picking

Fall is the prime season to go apple picking. Find your closest apple orchard and see if they offer apple picking. It can be so much fun to pick your own apples. After you take them home you can enjoy them as a snack or even bake with them. Apple picking is fun for the whole family and a great out door activity to do in the fall.

Decorate pumpkins

My girls absolutely love decorating pumpkins. After everyone has found their perfect pumpkin get out the paint, glitter and stickers to decorate them. The kids will have so much fun! If crafting is not your style, carve your pumpkin to show off on Halloween night.

Go on a hike

Nature is so beautiful during the fall. It is a great time to go out and explore the outdoors. The leaves are changing and are starting to fall that it makes for a perfect family tradition. Collect pine cones or colorful leaves to use in a craft project later. You may even see more animals in the cooler weather.

Visit A Halloween store

I don’t know what it is about Halloween stores, but my girls beg us to take them every year. I guess the spooky decorations and exciting new costumes makes for a fun family outing. In fact, we visit the Halloween store several times before Halloween arrives. My girls are always so bummed when the store closes after the holiday.

Decorate for Fall

Decorating for fall can be so much fun and will really set the mood for the season. The best part is that the whole family can do this together. My girls are actually the ones who initiate this every year. Put out pumpkins and gourds on your porch with a fall wreath and welcome mat for an inviting entry. You may even want to make a scare crow together as a family using some of dads old clothes. I remember doing all of that as a kid and it was so much fun.

Bake with pumpkins

Fall is the time of year when it’s all about pumpkin. Pumpkin desserts are so delicious and really fun to make. Get the kids involved in the kitchen to bake a delicious pie or pumpkin cookies. Bake the same thing every year or find new recipes to try. Your whole family will love to be part of this family tradition. After all a big part of fall is the food!

Pumpkin Delights Recipe

Donate to a food bank

Teach your kids the importance of giving back to your community with this family tradition. Each year hundreds of people are hungry during the holidays. Do your part to donate nonperishable food items to your local food bank for the holiday season. Your kids will love to get involved and they will learn an important lesson.

Go Trick or treating

Trick or treating is a big event that happens every year in fall. I don’t think there is any kid on earth that doesn’t like getting candy. Trick or treating as a family can be a fun tradition to do together. Come up with coordinating themed costumes to dress as and go trick or treating together. It’s a great tradition that your kids will look forward to each year.

Give Thanks

Make an opportunity to teach your kids the importance of giving thanks and being grateful for what you have. Use the time to make a craft or activity to show what each member of the family is thankful for. It can be an important reminder to ourselves and a teaching tool for our kids.

Not Quite Susie Homemaker- Hilarious Homemaking Fails

The truth is that I am in no way the perfect Susie Homemaker. I have definitely had my share of cooking disasters and laundry fails. Most of which are really stupid mistakes that I wish I could forget. Whether it’s the mommy brain, the kids distracting me, or just plain exhaustion things can and do go wrong.

In this post I found some other brave mommy bloggers to share their hilarious homemaking fail stories. It’s nice to know that I am not the only one with my share of homemaking disasters. Let me start though by sharing a few of my own homemaking fails.

Please don’t judge… LOL

One of my most memorable fails was the time I accidentally washed an entire box of tissues in the washing machine. If you are familiar with tissues then you know that when tissues get wet they fall apart into a million tissue crumbs. Not to mention the little pieces of cardboard mixed in with the clean clothes. It is safe to assume that the cleanup was a nightmare! (Note: don’t ever put a box of tissues in your laundry basket to save you an extra trip up the stairs.)

Some of my other memorable fails are the time I forget to check my husbands pockets and washed his entire wallet! I have also used bleach to remove some stains from the carpet and ended up with orange spots instead. In the kitchen I have forgotten to close the lid all the way on the blender and ended up with smoothie all over the wall. I have also forgotten to remove the cardboard under the frozen pizza and didn’t notice until the oven was smoking!

I can laugh about these stories now and how stupid they were, but at the time I was definitely not laughing. As you can probably imagine I have learned from these mistakes and try to be a bit more careful now when doing house chores. Although not perfect, I still make ridiculous mistakes from time to time. Keep reading to laugh at more hilarious homemaking fails.

“There’s not much worse than accidentally machine washing a disposable diaper…which sadly I’ve done more than once.” – She Who Has Believed

“How to pick just one. The most recent is probably when pregnancy brain took over and I put 2 CUPS of baking soda in a batch of brownies instead of 2 TEASPOONS! or there was that time I turned an entire batch of white laundry bright purple….. lol.”- The Vintage Millenial

“I just put a pair of bright red baby jeans with the rest of her clothes and well you can guess the outcome. I have an entire set of baby clothes a beautiful shade of red with some severe patches here and there.”- Shahira

“Not sure if this completely counts BUT I’ve ran out of the house for 30 seconds to throw out the trash only to find my three year old locked me out of the house. Pro tip: keep spare key in garage AND unlock deck door beforehand from now on. You can never be too safe.”- My Sweet Lilac

“I foraged a load of blackberries and thought I was going to be super star homemaker and made jam. But sure who really needs to read instructions? I made jars of toffee which set solid and all had to be chucked.”- Home Grown Heaven

“I installed a high-up extra closet rod in a back nook of our basement to store hangers/clothes on while prepping for our local children’s consignment/resale events. Instead of installing both top AND bottom screws on the support brackets into the studs the top screws ended up about an inch above where the wall studs inexplicably stopped. The night before the consignment sale – immediately after hanging the LAST tagged/pressed piece of clothing on the rod and before taking them all down to pack up for the sale, the whole rod ripped out of the wall and all the clean/pressed clothes came tumbling down. They were covered with crumbling drywall from the big holes left in the wall when the brackets ripped out.”- Super Mom Hacks

“Oh man where do I begin…how about what happened just right now…mom brain to the max..I was so excited that I was getting everything done before hubby came home that I did not look at what I was grabbing and poured toilet bowl cleaning gel into the dishwasher ….I just set it to rewash it all again…”- Mamma Bear Says

“I was trying to put away the bulk container of garlic powder in the cupboard and instead I spiked it to the floor. It burst open and garlic powder exploded all over in front of me.” My Joy In Chaos

“When my husband and I were first dating I was trying to impress him and hide the fact that I am what I like to call “domestically challenged”. It was his birthday and I attempted to bake an angel food cake. Somehow it came out completely charred black on the top while still being wet and raw in the middle. Ever since then on his birthday he says he just wants fruit salad.”- Real Mom Recs

“I was making salsa once and could not find the blender anywhere. I’m not sure why I thought this was a good idea but I decided to improvise with a hand mixer. Yes, a hand mixer. Needless to say, I ended up taking store bought salsa to the event I was making it for. It also took quite awhile to get the salsa off the walls… and everything else!”-  For The Love Of Mom

“Too many hahaha one that comes to mind is moving the washing machine and forgetting to put the drain tube thing back in the sink and flooding the laundry.”- Little Finch Designs

“I was cooking and put olive oil in a pan and was just to put in the onion when I noticed that my baby had pooped.  At the time I had a severe case of breastfeeding brain and totally forgot about the pan that was on the stove. When I got back to the kitchen the whole pan was on fire. I shouted for my son’s father who came running, took the burning pan and put it in the sink. He was so close to turning on the water but luckily I yelled “The lid! Take the lid!” We can laugh about it now but it was so close to ending in a disaster thanks to my breastfeeding brain.”- Awesome Alice

“I burnt my couch with my high powered hair dryer in an attempt to dry out a cushion soaked with water because Toddlers… true story. I burnt the couch.”- Love Life Laugh Motherhood

“Not long after our second baby was born, my in-laws decided to visit. In an attempt to impress them that I had my sh# together, I baked cookies (break and bake but they didn’t need to know that!) and put candles along the top of the mantel on the fireplace. We were sitting in the living room when my brother in law casually said, “Mary your mirror is on fire.” The mirror on my fireplace had a wood surround (which my in laws gave to me) and it was smoking all along the bottom from the candles. I was mortified!”- Mary Brogdon Wessel

Thank you to all of the mommies that contributed to this post. We may not be the perfect Susie Homemakers, but at least we are trying. Mom brain can definitely get the best of us sometimes. Please check out their blogs to find other great stories and advice. These women are doing great work!

Treating Our Kids The Same When They Are Very Different

No parent wants to admit that they have a favorite kid, but the reality is that we probably do. Sure we love all of our kids the same, but do we really like them all the same? Parents may fear that when they have another child they will not love the new child as much or that they may love it more. Maybe it sounds crazy, but it is actually a legitimate concern. Throughout our lives we come across different personalities and the fact is that we get along with some better than others. With the different personalities of our kids, treating them the same can be an on going challenge.

Just as our kids don’t get to choose their parents, we don’t get to choose our kid’s personalities. Many different factors play a role in making them who they are, such as environment or birth order. As much as we may try to change those undesirable behaviors, sometimes it comes down to good old genetics. The traits that we just can’t stand and the traits that we adore might just be built into their DNA.

Anyone who has more than one child can probably agree that there is at least one of their children that is more challenging to discipline than the others. If you have a strong-willed child than you know exactly what I am talking about. A strong-willed child doesn’t always like to be told what to do and often won’t take “no” for an answer. Having a strong-willed child is a challenge in itself. When you have other children that are not strong-willed and for the most part compliant, it can be difficult to treat them the same.

It’s not impossible to treat our kids the same, but it does require some extra effort. There are some guidelines that we as parents can set in place to make sure that all of our kids feel that they are treated equally. Consistency as in everything, is key! Stick to the same set of rules and always follow through. Don’t make exceptions for one unless you plan on making the exception for all.

Rules

Set up household rules that everyone is meant to follow. The same set of rules should apply to everyone. The only time this may change is if you have kids with a big age difference, otherwise all of the rules would be the same. Rules would be like, no jumping on the bed or clean up your toys when your done playing with them.

Discipline

Discipline should be the same for all of your kids. I know as a parent this can be hard. Sometimes we make excuses for the youngest that they are still little and don’t know any better. It’s important to stick to our guns even with that adorable little face looking back at us. When rules are broken or our child misbehaves there should be a consequence for that child.

Affection

Affection is probably one of the most important things that we as parents need to be more conscience of. I often catch myself giving my little one more kisses and more snuggles than my older one. This is partly because my little one is a lot more affectionate than my older child. I remind myself to show both of my kids affection. If I give one a hug and tell them I love them, then I give my other a hug and tell them that I love them. It sounds easy, but it is also easy to forget.

Quality Time

Quality time is important for every child to do with their parents. It’s important that we spend equal amounts of quality time with each of our kids. I suggest making a schedule of when we are going to spend quality time with each of them. That way is it set in stone and everyone knows when it’s their time. Let your kids choose an activity that they want to do with just you and follow through.

Compliments

Remember to compliment all of your children daily. Tell each of them something good that they are doing or something you love about them. For example, “I love how you helped your sister with the blocks” or I love how smart you are”. Not only will this boost their confidence, but it will also make each of them feel loved by you.

I am no perfect parent, and I struggle with this topic a lot. I think that being aware of our kid’s differences and not letting it factor the way we treat them is a step in the right direction. The reality is that some kids require more attention than others. If we implement these guidelines into our daily routine we have a better chance of making all of our kids feel loved equally.

Do you ever find yourself treating your kids differently? What do you do to try to fix it?

8 Ways To Exercise Without Even Knowing It

Wouldn’t it be nice to exercise with out knowing it? If you are like me, then you probably think exercising is pretty boring. Sometimes its hard to get motivated for that reason alone. As a busy mom myself I know that getting a workout into my daily routine can be another challenge. Trying to exercise with screaming kids climbing all over you is no easy task.

If the same old boring work outs are not motivating you than you may want to trick yourself into exercising. I’m talking about getting a good work out and not even realizing it! Some of these ideas are fun and some are just things that need to get done anyway. Its all about multitasking and doing all of the things that are important to you, including exercise.

1. Walk, alot!

Walking is a great way to exercise and tone your legs. Doing a lot of walking is the best way to exercise. Go somewhere fun that requires a lot of walking. I suggest theme parks, the zoo, or the mall. If you have young kids and are pushing a stroller, even better! You will not realize how much of a work out you are actually getting until the next day when your legs are sore. The best part is that you were doing something fun with your kids!

2. Deep Clean

You have probably already realized that cleaning can be a lot of work. Especially if you have kids that destroy your house in no time. Sometimes I feel like all I do is clean all day. Deep cleaning your house is how you really break a sweat. I like to pick one day a week where I go nuts cleaning. Clean the things that you don’t usually clean, but could probably use a cleaning anyway. Baseboards, under the couch and in between cushions, behind the refrigerator, or the grout stains on your tiles. You get the point!

3. Gardening

Gardening can be a serious work out, but also kind of fun. I find gardening to be a great stress relief. Pulling weeds, pruning shrubs, raking leaves, and sweeping dirt are all great ways to get a workout when gardening. I know from experience that pulling weeds or planting flowers are a great work out for your butt and thighs. The nice thing about this work out is that you will have a beautiful garden as a result.

4. Swim

If you have kids, than they probably love swimming. Take them to the pool and play with them. Have races from one side of the pool to the other or play Marko Polo. You want to play any game that is going to get you moving. You and your kids will have a blast and you won’t even know you are exercising.

5. Play a sport

Sports can be a great work out, but also a lot of fun! Find a fun sport to play with friends or with your kids and husband. The best sports to play to get a good workout are soccer, tennis, basketball or volleyball. All of these games you can play in the park or in your own backyard. You will have fun and break a sweat.

6. Hike

If you are a nature lover like me then you will probably enjoy going on a hike. Hiking can be a peaceful and great way to work out. Being out in nature and taking in the fresh air is a wonderful experience. Because hiking usually requires you to walk up hill it is a great way to burn calories and tone.

7. Take a dance class

Dancing is a good way to exercise, but also a lot of fun. Take a dance class with girl friends or a salsa class with your husband. You will be learning something new and exercising at the same time.

8. ride a bike

Go on a bike ride with friends or family. Riding bikes can be a great work out and pretty relaxing. Find a nice bike trail by the beach or at the park and you won’t even realize that you are exercising. Riding your bike around the neighborhood with your kids can be a lot of fun for you and the kids.

Get Moving!

Hopefully some of these suggestions will inspire you to get moving. Try doing at least 2 to 3 of these a week and you will start to feel so much better. Who wants to do the same boring exercises anyway! The best way to work out is to not even know you are working out.

I recently began a workout routine to get myself in better shape. With the warm weather already upon us, I am in no way ready for the beach. The truth is that I really slacked off during the holidays and winter months. Now I am paying the price as I have a few extra pounds that I want to lose.

Getting back into a workout routine has been tough. I come up with every possible reason why I can’t work out that day. It can be really hard to get motivated to workout. As A mom I am truly tired most days. I have been cleaning up and running around with the kids all day that the last thing I am thinking about is exercising.

Because mind over matter doesn’t always work, I have some unconventional ways of getting myself motivated to exercise. I usually mix it up and try different things depending on my mood. Chances are that one of these things will get me up off the couch.

1. Put On Workout Clothes

For some reason putting on yoga pants and a sports bra makes me want to work out. I don’t know if it’s because it’s super comfortable or because it makes me feel fit, but whatever the case may be it works! I have noticed that if I am wearing jeans or something uncomfortable I have not desire to exercise. As soon as I put on my leggings its game on!

2. Stand In Front Of The Mirror

Seriously! Getting dressed in front of the mirror can be a scary thought! When you are standing in front of the mirror you see yourself from another angle. You will notice the areas that need improvement. I know that I am reminded of what I want to achieve with my workout.

3. Read A Fitness Magazine

I love to look at fitness magazines or fitness blogs to be inspired. I like to find new exercises or workout routines that I want to try out. Not to mention the fabulous shape that all of these fitness models are in can be motivational. Reading all about fitness makes me want to be fit!

4. Listen To Dance Music

It’s called dance music for a reason because it makes you want to start moving! Dance music always gets me in the mood to work out. Put on your favorite upbeat songs before and during your workout routine.

5. Go For A Walk

Go for a walk around your neighborhood or park and magically you will have a boost of energy. Walking gets your heart rate up and the fresh air will motivate you to work out. Some days I will make my workout all about walking. I like to walk briskly a few times around my community. It can be a great workout and less intense than other exercise routines.

6. Drink A Cup Of Coffee

I hate to admit it, but I need to drink a cup of coffee everyday before I workout. If I am feeling sleepy there really is no way I am planning on working out. I have to have a cup of coffee to get energized to exercise. Of course it is always very important to drink plenty of water during and after exercise in addition to coffee.

7. Watch A Workout Video

Sometimes just by putting on a work out video will inspire me to start exercising. Once you see what great shape the instructors are in you will want to try some of the exercises yourself. It’s pretty impossible to sit there eating a bag of chips while the people on your screen are getting in shape!

8. Keep Your Eye On The Prize

Before you begin a work out routine set a realistic goal for yourself. Weather its to lose 10 pounds or to fit in those skinny jeans again, write it down. If you are focused on that goal you will be motivated in reaching that goal. Remind yourself daily of what you want to achieve and keep track of your progress. When we see results we are motivated to keep going.

9. Stretch

Stretching is important before doing any kind of exercise, but can also put you in the mood to workout. I found that stretching works great on the days that I am feeling tired or stiff. Doing some really great stretches will loosen you up and make you feel ready for exercise.

10. Go Swimsuit Shopping

I recently went swimsuit shopping and it was kind of a wake up call. The swimsuits that I saw online looked nothing like they were supposed to on me. Instead of becoming depressed and going home to eating some chocolate I turned my experience into motivation. I want to one day feel good about trying on swimsuits and be happy about my body.

Good luck!

I hope you will find what works for you and how you can motivate yourself to workout. Finding the motivation can be challenging at first, but once you get into a workout routine it will become easier as time goes on. Try to always stay positive and keep your goal in mind.
